Simple Rent vs. Buy Calculator

This simple online calculator will help you determine if you are ready to make a home purchase. Simply fill in your current rental data and then fill in your prospective home purchase data. In case you are unsure, please use the following in the home purchase data section to be cautious: 2% for home appreciation rate, 1.2% of purchase price for taxes, $1000 for homeowner insurance and 5% for selling costs. 

Please note that this calculator does not take into account utility costs if you are purchasing. This is an additional cost to purchasing, but is in many cases already included in your rental payment. It also does not take into account the fact that you can reinvest any savings you obtain from renting in other investment opportunities.
